Violence is a weapon. We normally think of violence as weaponry, but this is only one type. Sporadic violence is observable as spectacle. It acts like a jumpscare to the nervous system, and makes us behave against our better instincts. Structural violence uses Sporadic violence to scare us into distrusting each other. Structural violence is why healthcare is so expensive, why our public services are so terrible, why we expect so little from politicians who promise us virtually nothing. Structural violence is the 1% crushing the rest of us, fearing the day we realize we’re stronger. It’s not left vs. right. It’s up vs. down.

What else is there to do? Do we really think this is working? When do we agree it’s time? Must things be unbearable before change can be made? Before we can finally agree to take what is ours? What else are you doing? I’m not doing anything else.
