Why I’m Running
I moved from my hometown in beachfront North Carolina to mid Michigan in July of 2021. The warm weather and beautiful Michigan summer convinced me I made the right choice. The freezing cold winter woke me up to reality, but the beauty was the same, and it just solidified my choice. Snow was always a special occasion growing up, and while I feel differently when I have to scrape the damn ice and snow off my car at 5 in the morning to get to work, it’s still special to me. I am incredibly proud to point to the middle of my palm and call it home. Because mid Michigan is special.
But it is being destroyed.
For decades, corrupted and money oriented politicians have bled us dry and blamed us for the stains. Owners profit off our labor, refuse us democracy in the workplace, and then abandon our communities to line their pockets. These groups work together to hurt us because they understand we are more powerful than them. They create divisions to maintain their positions. I think they’re full of shit, and I’m done just taking it.
So I choose to fight.
My father is a carpenter and taught me the value of working hard and taking care of my body to do so. My mother is an occupational and massage therapist who taught me the value of taking care of my body and working hard to do so. Together, they ultimately taught me that workers sacrifice and sell our bodies at our own expense. Whether it’s standing at the cash register, staring at a screen alone in your apartment, working in an underground lab, taking calls in an office, building a house, nursing the sick, teaching the youth, or a million other incredibly interesting and unique jobs, we all work for 8 or more hours a day and suffer as a result.
It CAN be different.
We suffer so we can afford for our loved ones. But when things become unaffordable, why do we suffer? Then, we suffer so a handful of people who would probably rather die than be forced to live in the beautiful harsh reality of mid Michigan let alone work an hour at any of our jobs, can make even more money. I fucking hate these people. They are the takers of our world. We are the makers. It’s time for us to take back what we made and they stole.
That is why I’m running, and that is why I urge you to Join the Working Class Fight.
